Mentor's Summer Event Season Ramps Up: Tunes at the Lagoons Kicks Off Friday at the Marina
By Alicia Tran ยท July 20, 2026
A free Friday night of Tom Petty hits is waiting at Mentor Lagoons Marina on July 24, when Shadow of Doubt takes the stage from 7 to 9 p.m. The marina is at 8365 Harbor Drive, Mentor, Ohio 44060. Admission and parking are free, and food and beverage service begins at 6 p.m., an hour before the music.
Tunes at the Lagoons is a complimentary concert series staged every other Friday at the marina. The 2026 season โ the program's fifth year โ consists of six shows running from June 12 through August 21. The season opened June 12 with Monica Robins and the Ninja Cowboys, followed by Treble in CLE on June 26 and China Grove, a Doobie Brothers tribute band, on July 10.
Mentor sits directly on Lake Erie's south shore in northeastern Ohio and covers 28.00 square miles, making it the largest city in Lake County by area. Southern inland neighborhoods lie roughly 5 to 6 miles from the lake, meaning a two-hour lakefront concert requires a round-trip drive of 10 to 12 miles โ a distance that may determine whether the series functions as a citywide amenity or primarily serves lakefront-adjacent areas.
The City of Mentor invested $466,806 in phases 1 and 2 of Mentor Lagoons Marina improvements, including an ADA-accessible boardwalk, observation deck, tower and new gas dock, funded partly by $236,706 in NOAA Coastal Management Assistance Grants. Those boardwalk and tower features provide viewing areas beyond the concert lawn. The city also presents the Mentor Rocks summer concert series at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater, featuring national headliners Phillip Phillips and Night Ranger alongside tribute acts on Tuesday evenings from June 2 to August 25, 2026. The dual programming positions Tunes at the Lagoons as the lakefront complement to the inland amphitheater series, leveraging Lake Erie as a civic asset while offering a more intimate, waterfront venue.
Free parking removes one cost barrier for families driving from across the city, and the biweekly Friday evening schedule avoids competing with weeknight commitments while offering a regular summer routine for lakefront entertainment.
Shadow of Doubt is a Cleveland-based Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers tribute band founded in 2009 by Jim Wilson, Rod Wolanin and Joe Morales, performing Petty's big hits, deep cuts and songs from side projects like Mudcrutch and the Traveling Wilburys, with Wilson portraying Petty on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. The remaining concerts after July 24 are August 7, featuring One, a U2 tribute, and August 21, featuring Pieces of Eight, a local band.
