Eastlake man sentenced to 19.5 years on sexual-conduct, drug charges after teen alleged trafficking threat

An Eastlake man will spend nearly two decades in prison after pleading guilty to seven felony counts stemming from sexual conduct with minors and an alleged threat to traffic a teenage girl for $5,000.

Tre Vaun Hopkins, 25, was sentenced to 19.5 years in Lake County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2026. Hopkins pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony; two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony; and two counts of corrupting another with drugs, a fourth-degree felony.

How the case began

The investigation started Oct. 24, 2024, when a 15-year-old girl at the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center in Painesville reported sexual conduct with Hopkins. The girl told investigators Hopkins said he would traffic her for $5,000.

As Eastlake police dug deeper, detectives identified multiple incidents involving Hopkins and several young girls, along with alleged provision of controlled substances and cell phones to juveniles. The investigation traced incidents to the Willo-Wood Apartment Complex in Eastlake and the Pine Ridge Apartment Complex in Willoughby Hills. Investigators also found Hopkins displayed unexplained large amounts of cash on social media.

Police said there was insufficient evidence to support human trafficking or kidnapping charges, so Hopkins was ultimately sentenced on the other felony offenses.

From grand jury to guilty plea

The case was presented to a Lake County Court of Common Pleas grand jury. Under Ohio law, a grand jury returns an indictment when at least seven of its nine jurors find probable cause. Additional charges were filed after a June 29, 2026, hearing, and Hopkins pleaded guilty on July 2, 2026.

Under Ohio law, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor is typically a fourth-degree felony but rises to a third-degree felony when the offender is 10 or more years older than the victim. Third-degree felonies carry a sentence of 12 to 60 months and up to a $10,000 fine. Hopkins pleaded guilty to three third-degree felony counts and four fourth-degree felony counts.

The sentence

At Wednesday's hearing, Hopkins received 19.5 years in prison with 56 days of jail-time credit. He will face five years of post-release control after completing his sentence.

The 19.5-year term closes the criminal case but leaves an open question the court record itself underscores: investigators identified multiple young victims and alleged trafficking conduct, yet the evidence fell short of trafficking or kidnapping charges — a gap between what detectives found and what prosecutors could prove.
